
Orange Overpowers Brown, 3-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore Erin Little led the Orange with 10 kills in a dominating 3-0 victory against Brown in the first game of the Rhode Island Tournament on Friday afternoon. Syracuse improved to 5-2 on the season while the Bears moved to 1-2 overall.
“It was a solid all-around effort for us,” assistant coach Carol LaMarche said. “We got to put a lot of people in the game and test different lineups for conference competition. Everyone played well and contributed, it was a good effort.”
The Orange overpowered the Bears at the net with a 46-21 advantage in kills and an 8-3 advantage in blocks. The victory was an all-around effort for Syracuse, with every player on the roster getting in the game and 10 different players recording at least one kill.
Outside hitter Kacie MacTavish ranked second on the team with eight kills while middle blockers Sarah Morton and Hayley Todd added six apiece. Sophomore Hallie Morse and freshman Laura Homann split time fueling the Orange attack, dishing out 19 and 11 assists, respectively.
Defensively, sophomore outside hitter Noemie Lefebvre collected a team-best 11 digs while Annabelle Pellerin's three total blocks was a match-leading mark.
Syracuse never trailed for the entirety of the first set, utilizing a series of two and three point runs to take a commanding lead, 22-15, before closing out a 25-17 victory.
The two teams played closely in the second set, tying on seven separate occasions throughout the set. Knotted at 16-16, Lefebvre served nine-straight points to break the game open, 24-16, before a kill by Little sealed a 25-17 second set victory for SU.
SU cruised through the third set, jumping out to an early 11-4 lead courtesy of kills by Little, Pellerin and three from MacTavish coupled with back-to-back service aces by Morton. Syracuse went on to take the set, 25-11 and the match, 3-0.
The Orange continues Rhode Island Tournament play on Saturday, September 12, facing tournament host Rhode Island at 1 p.m. and New Hampshire at 4 p.m.
