SU Loses To St. John's In Season Finale

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse outshot St. John's, 14-11, but the Red Storm (7-2-8, 6-1-4) scored twice in the first half and defeated the Orange, 2-0, on Sunday, Nov. 1 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The match was the season finale for Syracuse, while St. John's earned the BIG EAST Red Division's No. 2 seed and a bye in the upcoming conference tournament with the victory.
Tadeu Terra and Connor Lade tallied the only two goals of the match for the Red Storm. Terra was on the receiving end of a pass from Walter Hines and he converted the opportunity to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage in the 23rd minute. Lade extended the St. John's lead to two in the 30th minute with his first goal of the season.
The Orange's best offensive chance in the first period came off a free kick with 11 minutes left. Senior Pete Hill served the ball into the box where it was re-directed by sophomore #L.J. Papaleo#, but Red Storm keeper Derby Carrillo was there to make one of his two first-half saves.
Syracuse (3-15-0, 2-9-0) took the game to St. John's in the second half, outshooting the Red Storm, 8-4, however, the Orange couldn't find the back of the net. Carrillo made a leaping save on senior Hansen Woodruff's chance in the 56th minute to keep the Orange off the board. Senior Kenny Caceros had a pair of opportunities from the top of the box in the 63rd and 66th minutes, respectively, but his shots both sailed over the crossbar.
Carrillo finished the match with four saves for St. John's to earn his eighth shutout of the season. Redshirt freshman Ryan Jones made one save for the Orange in the first half. Woodruff paced the SU offense with six shots in his final college match.
Match Notes: The game was the Orange's second in as many days … The last time Syracuse played on back-to-back days was in 1997 when it faced Richmond (Sept. 6) and Ohio State (Sept. 7) in Storrs, Conn. at the New England Ford Dealers Soccer Classic.
