SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Junior Tom Perevegyencev (Budapest, Hungary) scored in the 86th minute to propel the Orange men’s soccer team (6-4-3, 3-4-1) to a 1-0 win against DePaul on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The goal was Perevegyencev’s team-leading fifth of the season and his second game-winner in 2008.
The goal came after a header by senior Spencer Schomaker (Seattle, Wash.) ricocheted off the post. The ball caromed to Perevegyencev and he beat DePaul keeper Brian Visser with a low shot to provide the winning margin.
Syracuse outshot the Blue Demons (6-5-3, 4-3-1) by the count of 13-5 for the match and owned a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Orange defense surrendered just one shot on goal.
Orange senior keeper Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario) his only save of the match in the second half to record his eighth shutout of the year. Cavicchia is a half shutout behind Charlie Wilke for fifth on SU’s single-season list. Wilke had 8.5 shutouts in 1989.
Visser finished with four saves for the Blue Demons. Nathan Feltz paced DePaul with two shots.
Syracuse concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 21 with a 7 p.m. home match against Adelphi. Admission and parking is free of charge.
