ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Orange posted an undefeated mark in non-conference play for the second straight season with a 1-1 tie at Hartwick on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Elmore Field. Syracuse concluded its 2007 non-league slate with a 3-0-4 record and is 8-0-4 in non-BIG EAST pairings the last two years.
Syracuse’s last non-conference loss came against Oneonta on Oct. 12, 2005, and the squad ran its non-league unbeaten streak to 13 games with its double-overtime draw against the Hawks.
After a scoreless first half Wednesday night, the Orange (5-4-4) took a 1-0 lead on sophomore Hansen Woodruff’s (Stuart, Fla.) second penalty kick of the year. The score came in the 72nd minute and was his team-leading eighth goal of the season. The tally increased his season point total to 20. He is the first SU player since Jarett Park (21 points) in 2002 to reach the 20-point mark.
Hartwick (3-4-4) responded with the game-tying goal in the 87th minute. Carson Pryde notched his first goal of the year off an assist from Michael Cunningham at 86:47 to force overtime.
The Hawks recorded the only shots of the two extra sessions with three in the first overtime. Neither team had a shot attempt in the second extra frame.
Junior goalie Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario) made two saves in the contest. His counterpart, Jeremy Vuolo, stopped three shots, including two in the second half.
Syracuse returns to BIG EAST Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 20 with a 7:00 p.m. match at Louisville.
