Volleyball Loses To Pittsburgh, 3-0

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Senior Kristen Conway led the Orange with 11 kills, but it was Pittsburgh coming away with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-27, 32-30) victory in BIG EAST volleyball action this afternoon at Fitzgerald Field House.
Conway was the only SU player in double-digit kills as she hit a team best .346 on the afternoon. Senior Katie Allen contributed on the defensive side with seven block assists while adding six kills. Senior Kelly Duan had eight kills and six block assists, while sophomore Jen Malcom had six total blocks, including two solo. Sophomore Joscie Kaup led the way in the back row with 10 digs.
For the Panthers (11-7, 4-1 BIG EAST), Gini Ullery recorded a match-high 19 kills while adding 16 digs. Diana Andreyko chipped in with 17 kills of her own, while Nicole Taurence dished out 45 assists. Megan McGrane had 17 digs for Pitt, while Stephanie Ross added 10.
The Orange (12-7, 3-2 BIG EAST) was held to a .171 hitting percentage in the match, but totaled 13.0 blocks compared to Pitt’s 7.0. However, the Panthers dug 54 SU attacks in a strong defensive effort.
SU plays its final match of the road trip tomorrow afternoon when it faces West Virginia at 2:00 p.m. It is the third match in as many days for the Orange.
