SU Volleyball Suffers First Home Loss

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball team (13-4) suffered its first home loss on Tuesday night, Sept. 28, as the Albany Great Danes (11-5) defeated the Orange, 3-2. This is Syracuse’s first loss to a New York team this season.
Albany was able to win games one (34-32), three (33-31) and five (15-12), while Syracuse won games two (30-25) and four (30-28).
The Orange had four players with a double-double. Junior Kristen Conway had 18 kills and 14 digs, while junior Kelly Duan had 18 kills, 13 digs and a team-leading six block assists for seven total blocks. Junior Aila Dommestrup was able to record a double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs, and junior Kathryn Dercher recorded a double-double of her own with 22 assists and 10 digs.
Sophomore Erin McQuillin led the team with three solo blocks and freshman Joscie Kaup had a team-leading 19 digs. Senior Morgan Jones also contributed 16 kills for the Orange.
With her 59 attempts, Conway moved into sixth place on SU’s career attacks list with 2,623.
Albany was led Ashley Hunter with 24 kills, Ashley DeNeal with 30 digs, and Blair Buchanan who recorded a double-double with 64 assists and 12 digs.
Syracuse opens its conference schedule with Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 2:00 p.m. in Manley Field House.
