SU Defeats Binghamton in Four Games, 3-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange volleyball team stays undefeated against New York teams as it defeated Binghamton, 3-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 22. With the win, Syracuse improves to 12-1 and Binghamton is now 5-7. SU won the match 30-21, 30-26, 19-30 and 30-27.
After winning the first game, 30-21, SU would play from behind much of game two. SU would eventually win the game 30-26, but Binghamton had gained the momentum as game three began. With the score tied, 17-17, Megan Hoag came to serve for the Bearcats. Hoag would lead Binghamton on a 10-point run to take the lead 27-17, and Binghamton would win the game, 30-19. Syracuse was able to win the fourth game, 30-27, and take the match, 3-1.
Junior Kelly Duan would lead the team in kills for the first time this season with 15. Duan would also lead the team with nine kills. Junior Aila Dommestrup recorded 37 assists in the match and made eight digs. Freshman Jen Malcom made three solo blocks to set a new season-high for a four game match. Malcom also made five digs to set a new career-high.
Michele Heck, Ashley Meffert and Anne Crocus recorded double-doubles for Binghamton. Heck had 12 kills and 10 digs. Meffert recorded 43 assists and 10 digs, and Crocus led the team with 18 kills and 10 total blocks.
Tonight’s match can be seen on Time Warner Channel 26 of Syracuse on Thursday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2:30 p.m.
