SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Orange volleyball team clinched a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Championship with its seventh-straight conference win against Connecticut, 3-0, on Sunday, Nov. 7. SU was able to sweep the Huskies with game scores of 30-19, 30-27 and 30-19. The Orange have a 24-5 overall record, 7-1 in the BIG EAST, while Connecticut is now 16-8, 5-3 in the conference. This is the first trip to the BIG EAST Championship for the Orange since 1999.
Junior Aila Dommestrup recorded her seventh double-double of the season recording 39 assists and 11 digs. Junior Kristen Conway led the Orange attack with 14 kills while also making nine digs. Freshman Cheryl Cobbina had 13 kills in two games, and junior Kelly Duan recorded 12 kills, five assists, three solo blocks and three block assists. Freshman Jen Malcom added four block assists for the Orange.
Connecticut was led by Jamie Hadenfeldt who recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs. Jenny Neelands set up the Huskies attack with 23 assists. Brittany Stewart recorded 11 digs.
SU will next play West Virginia on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Women’s Building.
