Volleyball Wins Eighth-Straight BIG EAST Match

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange volleyball team extended its winning streak to 12 games overall and eight in the BIG EAST with a sweep of West Virginia on Friday night. SU was able to win the match 30-20, 30-22 and 30-27. The Orange is 25-5 overall, and 8-1 in the league. West Virginia is now 18-12, 4-5 BIG EAST.
This is the most wins an SU volleyball team has had since 1996 when it finished the season at 26-11, and the most BIG EAST wins since 1990 when it had a 9-2 league mark.
Junior Kristen Conway recorded her 10th double-double of the season will 11 kills and 11 digs for the Orange. Junior Kelly Duan led the team in kills with 12, while adding eight digs and three total blocks. Two other players for the Orange finished the match with double figure kills. Senior Morgan Jones made 10 kills, while freshman Jen Malcom also recorded 10 kills and had five total blocks, including three solo and two assists. Junior Aila Dommestrup had 42 assists in the match and three service aces. Freshman Joscie Kaup had a team-leading 14 digs for the Orange.
Junior Katie Allen played two games for the Orange, recording three solo blocks to tie her career-high.
As a team, the Orange recorded seven solo blocks to tie its season-high in a three-game match. SU also recorded a team hitting percentage of .336 and was able to hold the Mountaineers to only a .087 percentage.
The Mountaineers were led by Stephanie Zolna with 10 kills. Brandice Studnicka had 30 assists, and Aurora Ebert-Santos made 14 digs.
SU finishes the regular-season at home against Pittsburgh on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
