Volleyball Defeats Boston College, 3-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball team defeated Boston College, 3-1, on Friday night, Nov. 5. After losing the first game (26-30), SU rallied to win the next three games by scores of 30-23, 30-22 and 30-21. SU improved to 23-5 overall and 6-1 in the BIG EAST this season. Boston College is now 17-11, 3-4 in the conference.
The Orange showed a total-team effort during the match. Junior Kelly Duan recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs. Junior Kristen Conway had a match-high 19 kills on 36 attacks for a .361 hitting percentage. Freshman Cheryl Cobbina added a career-high 15 kills on 31 attacks for a team-high .419 hitting percentage. Junior Aila Dommestrup recorded a match-high 56 assists, while also contributed with four kills, four digs and three block assists. Freshman Joscie Kaup led the back-court with 12 digs and tied her career-high with a match-high three service aces. Freshman Jen Malcom defended the net for the Orange with two solo blocks and three block assists.
Boston College was led with four players in double figures in kills. Katie Andersen led the Eagles with 16 kills, while Kelsey Johnson had 14, Dorota Niemczewska had 13 and Shardai Davis finished the match with 11. Vera Rost was the leading setter for the Eagles with 38 assists, and Allison Anderson had a match-high 23 digs.
As a team, the Orange had a season-best hitting percentage in a four-game match of .300 as SU was able to hit about .300 in the three games it won.
SU next takes on Connecticut on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the Women’s Building.
