SU Loses Regular-Season Finale to Pittsburgh, 3-2

SYRACUSE, N. Y. -- The Syracuse volleyball team lost a heartbreaker to Pittsburgh, 3-2, in the regular-season finale on Nov. 14. SU dominated early, winning the first game 30-17. The next two games were decided 30-28, one for the Panthers and one for the Orange. SU led 2-1 heading into the fourth game, but Pittsburgh would go on to win the fourth game, 30-27, and the fifth game, 15-12. SU is now 25-6 overall and 8-2 in the BIG EAST, while the Panthers are 20-7 overall and 8-2 in the league.
Juniors Kelly Duan and Kristen Conway both recorded double-doubles. Duan finished with 17 kills and 14 digs. Conway posted 18 kills on 55 attempts and 11 digs as well as two block assists.
Playing in front of the home-crowd for the final time was senior Morgan Jones with five kills, four digs, one solo block and one block assist. Freshman Jen Malcom finished with 14 kills on 32 attempts and recorded three solo blocks and five block assists. Freshman Joscie Kaup had a team-high 21 digs. Junior Aila Dommestrup led the Orange with 54 assists.
Gini Ullery, Diana Andreyko, Kindsey Macke and Melissa Whaley all recorded double-doubles for the Panthers. Ullery posted a match-high 30 kills on a match-high 88 attempts and added 10 digs. Andreyko had 11 kills on 48 attempts and added 10 digs and four block assists. Macke finished with 62 assists and 12 digs, while Whaley had 12 kills and 11 digs. Megan McGrane recorded a match-high 28 digs.
Syracuse will be the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Championship and will play the No. 2 seed, Pittsburgh Panthers, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, at Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa.
