Orange Volleyball Defeats Cornell, 3-1

Ithaca, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball team defeated the Cornell Big Red, 3-1, on Tuesday night, Oct. 19. SU was able to win the match by capturing wins in games one (30-24), two (30-26) and four (30-25), while Cornell won the third game (27-30). The Orange improves to 18-5 overall and 2-1 in the BIG EAST. Cornell is now 10-6.
Three Orange student-athletes recorded double-doubles in the match. Junior Aila Dommestrup had 58 assists and 11 digs, while classmate Kelly Duan had a team-high 23 kills and 13 digs. Freshman Cheryl Cobbina made 10 kills and a team-high 17 digs.
Senior Morgan Jones had 40 attacks in the match to move her into seventh place on SU’s career list with 2,599 attacks. Jones also tied her career-high with nine digs.
The Big Red was led by Elizabeth Bishop with 26 kills on 67 attempts and Kelly Kramer who recorded 19 digs.
Syracuse returns home for a BIG EAST match against St. John’s on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Women’s Building.
