
Miami Narrowly Defeats SU Volleyball, 3-2

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orangewomen volleyball team came from two games down to force Miami to a fifth game, but the Hurricanes won the match with a 15-10 victory in the deciding game on Friday at Syracuse's Women's Building. Miami (21-7, 8-2 BIG EAST) earned the victory, 30-27, 31-29, 27-30, 27-30, 15-10, against the Orange, which is now 16-13 overall and 3-6 in the BIG EAST. The loss mathematically eliminated SU from postseason contention in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Junior Morgan Jones led all players and tied her career high with 24 kills on a personal-best 55 attempts. Sophomore Kelly Duan recorded a double-double with 16 kills on 41 attempts and 10 digs. Classmate Kristen Conway also finished with a double-double on 14 kills and 11 digs. She also posted five blocks. Freshman Erin McQuillin and sophomore Jessica Logan each recorded 13 kills and two block assists. Sophomore Aila Dommestrup recorded 33 assists and four blocks, including two solo stops. Classmate Kathryn Dercher had 30 assists and five digs. Seniors Michaela Skelly and Christen Casey led the back-row defense with 15 and 17 digs, respectively.
With her 15 digs, Skelly moved into ninth place on SU's career digs list. She passed Dana Fiume (1997-00) and now has 793 digs in her career. Casey made a huge jump from tenth to seventh on the season digs list. She now has 369 digs in her career.
Leyre Santaella Sante paced the Hurricanes with 21 kills on 50 attempts. She also had a match-high three aces and eight digs. Karla Johnson finished with 13 kills and 10 blocks for a double-double. Jill Robinson recorded 63 assists, seven digs and four blocks. Francheska Savage posted 12 kills, and Robin Lewullis had 11 kills. Valeria Tipiana recorded nine kills and 10 digs. Jamie Grass finished with 16 digs, and Elizabeth Tyson posted 10 digs.
Syracuse plays its final home match on Sunday, Nov. 9, when it hosts Virginia Tech at the Women's Building at 1:00 p.m. The Orangewomen will honor seniors Christen Casey and Michaela Skelly for their four years of dedication to the program.
