
Orange Volleyball Loses at No. 14 Notre Dame, 3-0

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Syracuse volleyball team lost in three games, 30-16, 30-26, 30-21, against No. 14 Notre Dame on Sunday. The Fighting Irish improved to 19-2 overall and remained undefeated in league play, 8-0. The Orangewomen are now 16-12 overall and 3-5 in the BIG EAST.
Notre Dame forced Syracuse into its worst hitting performance of the season, -.008. Meanwhile, the Irish hit .171. Notre Dame recorded 15 team blocks to SU's eight, and seven service aces to Syracuse's two.
Sophomore Aila Dommestrup turned in the best offensive performance for the Orange, hitting .400 on four kills and 10 attacks with no errors. Dommestrup also recorded 12 assits, three digs and four block assists. Freshman Erin McQuillin recorded a .250 hitting percentage on three kills and one error on eight attempts. McQuillin also had four block assists. Sophomore Jessica Logan finished with a team-high seven kills. Sophomore Kelly Duan had six kills, five assists, two block assists and a team-high 12 digs. Senior Michaela Skelly recorded 10 digs, and classmate Christen Casey finished with 11 digs.
Sophomore Kathryn Dercher recorded her 600th career assist in the match as she finished with eight on the afternoon. Dercher debuted on SU's career assists-per-game list at eighth with a 3.79 average, and passed Barbara Patterson (1995-98) for ninth place on the career assists ledger with 607 in her career. Casey moved into third place on the career digs list with 1,179 in her career, passing Danielle Bethke (1993-96). Casey also moved into tenth place on the single-season digs list with 352. Junior Morgan Jones moved into tenth place on the career attacks list with 1,832, passing Jessica Paarlberg (1988-91).
Emily Loomis recorded 19 kills on 43 attempts and a .256 hitting percentage for the Irish. She also had eight digs and six block assists. Kristen Kinder posted a double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs. Jessica Kinder had five kills, six assists, three service aces, nine digs and two block assists. Lauren Kelbley finished with a team-high eight total blocks, and Lauren Brewster recorded five block assists. Meg Henican had six assists and 12 digs.
The Orangewomen host Miami and Virginia Tech on Friday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 9, as SU continues to fight for a BIG EAST playoff berth. Syracuse and the Hurricanes face each other on Friday at 7:00 p.m., and SU takes on the Hokies on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The match against Miami will be televised on Time Warner Cable channel 26 on a tape delay basis. Both matches will be played at the Women's Building on SU's campus.
