
Volleyball Shuts Out Seton Hall, 3-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore Kelly Duan and freshman Erin McQuillin both hit over .400 to lead the Syracuse volleyball team to a three-game victory (30-16, 30-22, 30-24) against Seton Hall. The Orangewomen improve to 14-9 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST, and the Pirates are now 14-8 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Duan hit .471 on nine kills and one error on 17 attempts, and also had 14 digs. McQuillin put away nine attempts and had two errors on 16 attacks for a .438 hitting percentage. The rookie also had four total blocks, including two solo stops. Junior Morgan Jones posted 10 kills on 25 attempts. Sophomore Jessica Logan had 10 kills on 32 attempts with just one error. Sophomore Kristen Conway recorded eight kills, six digs and three total blocks. With 21 attacks in the match, Conway's career total increased to 1,718, which places her at 10th on the SU list. Sophomores Aila Dommestrup and Kathryn Dercher split setting duties, with Dommestrup finishing with 18 assists and Dercher recording 20. Senior Christen Casey finished the match with eight digs.
Syracuse opened the first game with a 5-1 lead. The Orange went on a 16-6 run to take a 21-7 advantage en route to a 30-16 win. Seton Hall hung with SU for most of game two, tying the Orange 13 times during the game, including 12 consecutive side-outs. With Syracuse hanging on to a 23-22 lead, Conway took the ball behind the line, and served SU to a 30-22 victory. In the final game, Seton Hall took an early 4-2 lead, it's biggest edge of the match. Syracuse led by as many as seven at several points in the game, and won, 30-24.
Freshman Katherine Whitney, who leads the BIG EAST in kills in conference matches, added 17 kills to her total. She also had a match-high 45 attacks and two solo blocks. Jenna Meyers recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Shawn McDonald finished with 31 assists and six digs, while Jessica Pompei had a match-high 15 digs.
Syracuse travels to Loudenville, N.Y., to face Siena for the second time this season on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The Orangewomen defeated the Saints, 3-0, in their first match of the Big Orange Tournament. The first serve on Wednesday will be at 6:00 p.m.
