Mountaineers Defeat Orangewomen In Five Games

SYRACUSE, NY - Four Mountaineers hit in double figures to lead West Virginia past Syracuse, 3-2, on Friday evening in the Women’s Building.
Freshman Kristen Conway (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) led the SU (16-9, 2-5 BIG EAST) offense with 18 kills. Sophomore Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) joined Conway in double figures with 15 kills. SU hit .138 as a team, compared to West Virginia’s .219.
Freshman Aila Dommestrup (Ottawa, Ontario/Sir Robert Borden) dished out 54 assists and collected 11 digs. Junior co-captain Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) led the defense with 17 digs.
Stephanie Zolna led the Mountaineers (9-13, 3-4 BIG EAST) with 19 kills and 14 digs. Dimitra Havriluk and Julie Hockenson each recorded 13 kills, while Rebecca Kosnac posted 11.
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 when it faces Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. in the Women’s Building.
