
Georgetown Defeats Syracuse, 3-1

SYRACUSE, NY - Yulia Vtyurina recorded 23 kills and 10 digs to lead the Georgetown University women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-27, 26-30, 30-22, 30-22) victory against Syracuse on Friday night at Manley Field House. Georgetown’s record now stands at 6-4 overall and 3-0 in BIG EAST competition, while the Orangewomen drop to 5-6 and 0-2 in conference play.
Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) led the SU offense with 13 kills. Carol Munger (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) and Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) hit in double digits with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Senior Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) posted four kills, dished out 35 assists and had five total blocks (one solo, four assists). Freshman Rachel Crooks (Green Springs, OH/Clyde) had eight digs, and sophomores Michaela Skelly (Simi Valley, CA/Royal) and Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) followed with six digs each.
As a team the Hoyas posted a .227 attack percentage compared to SU’s .138. Lauren Warner joined Vtyurina in double figures with 21 kills, and Anna Sones dished out 46 assists. Anna Kleinsorge dominated at the net with five total blocks (two solo, three assists).
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 30 when it faces BIG EAST newcomer Virginia Tech at 2 p.m. at Manley Field House.
