
Koster Breaks Single-Match Total Blocks Record

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Freshman Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) broke the SU single-match total blocks record for a three-game match to lead the Syracuse volleyball team to a 3-0 victory against Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon at New Britain, CT. SU’s record now stands at 8-7 overall, while CCSU drops to 8-10.
Koster recorded 12 total blocks (5 solo, 7 assists) to lead the Orangewomen to a 30-23, 30-23, and 30-24 win against the Blue Devils. The five solo blocks was a new career high for the freshman. As a team, Syracuse outblocked Central Connecticut, 13-6. Koster also tallied a match-high 14 kills and three aces.
Syracuse hit a season-high .316, compared to CCSU’s .111. Senior co-captain Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) was in double figures for the third-straight match with 11 kills on 27 attempts with two errors for a .333 hitting percentage. Freshman Rachel Crooks (Green Springs, OH/Clyde) contributed nine kills on 17 attempts with one error for a career-high .471 attack percentage, and junior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) chipped in eight kills for a .538 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Michaela Skelly (Simi Valley, CA/Royal) had a team-high eight digs, while senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) dished out 38 assists, had six digs and added four block assists.
SU continues its road trip on Sunday, Oct. 7 when it faces BIG EAST opponent Boston College at 1 p.m.
