
Munger Leads Syracuse Past Villanova

SYRACUSE, NY - Senior co-captain Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) had a season-high 16 kills to lead the Syracuse University women’s volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Villanova on Sunday afternoon at the Women’s Building. The Orangewomen’s record stands at 9-9 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Villanova is now 5-10 and 1-4 in BIG EAST.
Syracuse lost the first game, 24-30 but came back to take the next three, 30-28, 30-15, 30-20. As a team, Syracuse hit a season-high .351, compared to Villanova’s .267. Freshman Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) tied two career highs with 12 kills and five digs, and teammate Laura Koster (Houston, TX/Westfield) recorded 10 kills on 25 attempts with one error for a .360 hitting percentage. Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) had her fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 10 kills and 46 assists. Sophomore Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) led the defense with a match-high 14 digs.
Jacqueline Fugiel led Villanova with 22 kills on 35 attempts with one error for a .600 attack percentage. Kerri Sullivan had 12 kills and six total blocks.
Syracuse returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when it travels to Siena at 7 p.m.
