A 2008 graduate of Wittenberg University, BJ Coad came to Syracuse prior to the 2012 season after starting his coaching career as an assistant coach at Wittenberg University. In 2012 and 2013, Coad was a defensive graduate assistant. He will shift to the offense for 2014 in the role of offensive graduate assistant.
At his alma mater, he worked with the offensive line for one season and the defensive line for three seasons. Under his tutelage, the defensive line earned seven All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors, four all-region awards and six All-America awards, including the 2009 D3football.com National Defensive Player of the Year, who amassed 16.5 sacks through the season. In 2009, the Wittenberg defense finished first in the nation in total defense and scoring defense, and in 2010 was fifth nationally in total defense.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Coad attended Archbishop Moeller High School before earning his bachelor’s degree in history from Wittenberg. He was a four-year letterwinner on the offensive line at Wittenberg, where his teams posted a 27-14 record during his career, including an 8-2 record in his senior campaign.
Coad and his wife, Ashley, reside in Brewerton.
