Syracuse Notes
Junior running back Walter Reyes' rushed for five touchdowns setting both the Syracuse single-season and career rushing touchdown records. Reyes rushed for 20 touchdowns in 2003, breaking his previous school record of 17 set last season. He now has 38 career rushing scores, passing Floyd Little's mark of 35 from 1964-66.
Reyes also broke the Syracuse single-season scoring record, registering 128 points in 2003. The previous mark was 114 set by Little in 1965. Reyes scored 104 points last season. He is the only player in school history to have two seasons with at least 100 points.
Reyes' five rushing touchdowns tied Floyd Little (vs. Kansas, 1964) for second place on the SU single-game ledger. His performance set Carrier Dome records for both touchdowns and points (30).
Reyes rushed for 189 yards on the day to move into 2nd place on the Orangemen's single-season rushing list at 1,347 yards, just 25 yards short of tying Joe Morris' school record of 1,372. Reyes and Morris are the only two Syracuse players to have two season ranked in the top five.
Reyes broke the school single-season record for most touchdowns with his 21st of the season (rushing and receiving), breaking Little's old mark of 19 set in 1965. Reyes also moved into second place on the SU career total touchdown ledger, scoring his 39th career TD. Little holds the mark with 46. Reyes also cracked the top 10 on the SU single-season touchdowns responsible for list. He now ranks tied for fifth with Marvin Graves at 21. He is in fifth place on the career list in the same category with 39.
Reyes' 19 carries increased his season total to 253, the 2nd highest single-season total in school history. He also cracked the Orangemen's all-time rushing attempts list. Reyes ranks 10th with 477 career carries.
Reyes had three receptions in the game, running his career total to 45, the 5th most by a running back in school history. His season total of 38 ranks 2nd on the SU single-season catches by a running back ledger (Duane Kinnon, 39, 1989).
Senior quarterback R.J. Anderson became the seventh SU signal caller to throw for 2,000 yards in one season. Anderson's season total of 2,164 is fifth on the Orangemen's single-season list.
Anderson's third completion of the game, a 15-yarder to Thump Belton, set a new SU single-season standard for completions. Anderson completed 186 passes in 2003. Marvin Graves previously held the record with 171 in 1993. Anderson also holds the single-season attempts record at 310. He is the only SU quarterback ever to throw 300 passes in a season.
Christian Ferrara's fourth down tackle behind the line of scrimmage on Notre Dame's second possession gave him sole possession of fifth place on the Orangemen's all-time tackles for loss list. Ferrara unofficially tied the Syracuse single-game record with five tackles behind the line (Dwight Freeney vs. VT in 2000; Antwaune Ponds vs. WVU in 1996), unofficially giving him 30.0 for his career. Ferrara also moved up on the single-season tackles for loss list. He unofficially has 16.5 for the season, passing Dwight Freeney (16.0, 2000) for third place on the SU list.
Collin Barber's 43-yard first-quarter field goal was his longest of the season. The make was the 28th of his career, moving him into a tie for sixth place with Tim Vesling on the SU career list.
Johnnie Morant had six receptions, moving him into a tie for seventh place with Mike Siano on the Syracuse single-season list with 46. Morant had 106 receiving yards, increasing his season total to 799, the ninth-best receiving season in school history.
Marcus Clayton had two punt returns for 16 yards to move into the Orangemen's single-season top 10 in both categories. Clayton returned 27 punts, tied for 10th in school history, for 273 yards, the 10th most at SU.
Lenny Cusumano's 30-yard catch in the second quarter was the longest of his career. Cusumano tied a career-high with two catches and set a new career standard with 41 yards.
Louis Gachelin's second-quarter sack increased his career total to 18.5, moving him past Rob Burnett into seventh on the Orangemen's all-time list.
Rashard Williams had his first punt return of the season, a 13-yarder in the third quarter. It was the first punt return, other than a blocked punt, for a player other than Marcus Clayto.
Tim Washington ran for a career-high 53 yards on a career-best 15 carries.
Alexander Ridore had his first career carry in the fourth quarter.
SU's 21 points in the third quarter was its highest-scoring quarter of the season.
