Orange Fall to Buffalo in Syracuse Invitational

The Syracuse volleyball team wrapped up the Syracuse Invitational with a 3-0 loss to Buffalo on Sunday at Women's Building. The Orange dropped the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15, falling to 5-4 on the season.
Kiernan Stamey paced the Orange offense with a team-high 17 kills on a .364 clip. Emma Williams added nine kills on a .318 clip. Setter Charis Burge dished out 31 assists, and Abby Nicholson chipped in five kills from the middle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one was tightly contested, with the two teams trading points through nine ties and five lead changes. Syracuse built as much as a four-point lead at 13-9, but Buffalo answered, closing the final stretch on a 6-of-7 run to take the opener, 25-20.
Buffalo went out with a 3-0 lead in set two, and although the Orange answered to tie it at 3-3, the Bulls would take control of the set. The visitors maintained control the rest of the way, taking the set 25-20.
Syracuse fell behind early in set three, and Buffalo pushed the lead as large as nine points at 13-4. Stamey and the Orange made a late push, but Syracuse dropped the finale, 25-15, as Buffalo took the match 3-0.
NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
Syracuse opens up ACC play with a home weekend against Louisville at 6 p.m. on Friday and Notre Dame at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the Women's Building.
