Syracuse University Director of Athletics John Wildhack announced on Monday the launch of The Block S Club, the official organization for former Syracuse student-athletes.
Anyone who has proudly worn the iconic 'Block S' for Syracuse for at least one season is automatically part of this exclusive community, including student-athletes of current and discontinued varsity sports, spirit squad members and student managers. No fees, no memberships, just a group with a common thread that binds everyone together: a shared experience competing as a student-athlete for Syracuse.
Through quarterly newsletter updates, exclusive engagement opportunities, and more, the Block S Club ensures that your connection to Syracuse remains strong, wherever life takes you.Â
"No one but a Syracuse student-athlete understands the dedication and pride it takes to represent Orange Nation and wear the 'Block S,'" said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. "Our student-athletes invest so much into the Syracuse University community and we want to ensure all former student-athletes feel connected long after they've graduated. Thank you for being part of our Syracuse Athletics family. You will always be Forever Orange!"
The Block S Club will be spearheaded by former Syracuse women's basketball player and Associate Director of Development, Former Student-Athlete Engagement, Whisper Fisher '20. "As a former Syracuse women's basketball student-athlete and a proud member of the Class of 2020, I know firsthand how impactful the Syracuse University experience can be," Fisher said. "My time at Syracuse as both an athlete and a student in the David B. Falk School left an unforgettable mark on my life. I am excited and honored to have the privilege of leading the rebrand and revitalization of our former student-athlete organization with the Block S Club. Our mission is simple: to foster a community where former student-athletes feel supported, appreciated, and connected to one another long after they leave the university."
The new club will operate under the 'Cuse Athletics Fund within the Athletic Department and will work in collaboration with the Office of Student-Athlete Engagement and the Office of Alumni Engagement. Associate Vice President for Athletic Development shared his optimism about the new program stating, "We're incredibly excited to roll out the Block S Club to further strengthen the connection between Syracuse Athletics and former Syracuse student-athletes. What makes the Block S Club even more special is that it will be led by one of their own with Whisper Fisher at the helm, who truly understands the Syracuse student-athlete experience. Today's launch is an important step to ensuring our former student-athletes feel connected to and valued by Syracuse Athletics."
The Block S Club is represented by former Syracuse student-athletes across all 50 states and in 63 different countries. Prior to becoming the Block S Club in 2025, Syracuse's community of former student athletes was called the Syracuse Varsity Club, or the Varsity Club of Syracuse University. The Varsity Club traces its roots back to 1934 when it was created by George Bond, Esq to serve as a social club for former Syracuse letterwinners.Â
