
Syracuse Upsets No. 15 Virginia Tech

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse knocked off No. 15 Virginia Tech, 2-1, in the first game of the series on Friday afternoon at Skytop Softball Stadium.
Each side had one home run on the day, but it was the Orange (24-20, 6-13 ACC) who nipped the Hokies (37-10-1, 17-5) in a tight matchup with a game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH:
The Orange got on the board first in the home half of the second inning as sophomore Madison Knight crushed her fourth home run of the season. In the top of the fourth frame, the Hokies responded with a homer from Cori McMillan that evened the score at 1-1.
In the fourth, Knight drew a free pass to first, then junior Laila Morales-Alves singled to right field and allow Knight to advance to third. Junior Angie Ramos swapped places with Knight to pinch run. freshman Makenzie Foster reached on a fielder's choice to shortstop, getting Ramos home to put the Orange in front, 2-1.
Senior Lindsey Hendrix was on the mound for Syracuse and threw a complete game. She had three strikeouts through the first four innings and finished the afternoon with four strikeouts and five hits allowed.

- With today's win, the Orange took down a top-25 team for the first time since defeating No. 11 Duke on Apr. 23, 2022.
- 'Cuse beat the Hokies for the first time since March 9, 2018, snapping Virginia Tech's five-game winning streak in the series.
- Knight hit her fourth home run of the season, three of which have come in the last five games.
- Four of Foster's five RBI on the season have come at home.
- Syracuse improved to 15-12 in the all-time series with Virginia Tech and 10-5 at home.
- Knight, Morales-Alves, senior Angel Jasso and junior Tessa Galipeau each recorded hits for the Orange.
