Volleyball to Begin ACC Play at #5 Louisville and Notre Dame

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team is set to begin conference play in Louisville, Ky. before traveling to South Bend, Ind. for a weekend on the roadin ACC action. The Orange (2-8) will play #5 Louisville (9-1) on Friday, September 22 at 7 p.m., then will travel to play Notre Dame (6-2) on Sunday, September 24 at noon. Fans can stream both matches live on ACCNX through the ESPN app or online.Â
'Cuse is coming off a three-set win against Morgan State to cap off its first weekend at home. Sophomore Ariana Joubert had a career-best performance versus the Bears, with 16 kills on a hitting percentage of .345. Freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy had two service aces in the match, she leads the team this season with 12. Freshman Mira Ledermueller, who set 33 assists in the match, is 10th in the ACC for assists, averaging 8.23 per frame.

'Cuse holds a 4-27 record against Louisville all-time. The Orange have competed with the Cardinals since 1982, before either team joined the ACC. Their last meeting was Oct. 9, 2022, where the Orange lost in straight sets. The last matchup won by the Orange was Nov. 3, 2019, where they bested the Cardinals in a five-set thriller. Louisville is coming off their first loss of the season to #4 Stanford at home. The Cardinals were co-ACC Champions for the 2022 season with Pitt after posting a record of 31-3 and 17-1 in the conference. Louisville lost to Texas in the 2022 NCAA Championship Game. The Cardinals have been picked to repeat as conference champions this year in the 2023 ACC preseason poll, with 190 points and eight first-place votes.

The clash between 'Cuse and Notre Dame dates to 1981, where 'Cuse won the first meeting in four sets. 'Cuse maintains an 8-29 record against the Fighting Irish all-time, the most recent meeting being Oct. 7, 2022, where Notre Dame swept 'Cuse. The Orange's last win against the Fighting Irish was Nov. 1, 2019, winning 3-1. Notre Dame is currently on a four-game winning streak, most recently beating Toledo with a sweep on the road. The Fighting Irish finished the 2022 season with a record of 10-18 and 5-13 in ACC play.
