Garrett Shrader had a career night on the ground, running for 195 yards and four touchdowns, both career highs. He also threw for 184 yards on 14 completions at Ross-Ade Stadium.
On the defensive side of the ball, Syracuse (3-0) limited Purdue to just 80 yards on the ground while forcing seven fumbles, recovering three. Syracuse scored 14 of its 35 points directly from Purdue miscues. Marlowe Wax forced two of those fumbles, including a strip sack and added an interception
Syracuse piled up 455 yards of total offense, including 271 yards on the ground. LeQuint Allen gathered 81 rushing yards while adding a touchdown. Damien Alford was the top receiving target in the win, reeling in four catches for 70 yards. Allen caught six balls for 62 yards to balance his evening.Â
The Orange return to the JMA Wireless Dome for the next two weekends, leading off on Sept. 23 against in-state rival Army West Point. Game time is set for Noon.

Purdue started its first drive at its own 43 yard line and drove deep into the 'Cuse zone. The Mob held firm and on a Purdue 4th-and-1 inside the 10-yard line, Justin Barron forced a fumble, recovered by Leon Lowery.
Taking advantage of the first turnover of the game, Syracuse drove 94 yards on 11 plays before Shrader walked in untouched on a fake handoff to Allen. Syracuse used small chunk plays on the drive, covering the distance with just two plays over 10-yards, aided by a 20-yard run from Shrader, setting up the ensuing touchdown.
Entering the game, Purdue had not turned the ball over in its first two games. The Orange forced their second fumble late in the first quarter on a strip sack from Wax and recovered by Terry Lockett at the Syracuse 36-yard line.
Shrader silenced the crowd at Ross-Ade Stadium with his second rushing touchdown of the game, this time from 35 yards out, capping a six-play, 64-yard drive that led off after the Wax takeaway.
Purdue got on the board with 11:14 to play in the second quarter on a Hudson Card-to-Deion Burks pass from two-yards out. The Boilermakers capitalized on a long passing play and penalty, setting up the seven-play, 75-yard drive.
As Purdue was driving after a missed Syracuse field goal, the defense again came up with another big turnover as Card fumbled again, setting up Lockett's second recovery of the night in the red zone, 5:50 from halftime.
Syracuse regained a two-touchdown lead with 2:34 to play in the half as Shrader handed off to Allen, punching it in from two-yards out. The Orange used another fumble recovery to put up a touchdown with the eight-play, 81 yard drive.
Wax and the defense continued to smother the Purdue offense late in the half. Card threw a pass towards TJ Sheffield but Alijah Clark crashed on the would-be receiver, jarring the ball free and right into the hands of Marlowe Wax. A facemask penalty on the return set the Orange up at the Boilermakers 40-yard line with 44 seconds left in the second quarter. Syracuse took a 21-7 lead into the break.
The Orange defense continued to pound on the first Purdue drive of the third quarter as Wax and Kevon Darton each jarred the ball loose. The Boilermakers recovered each time, but punted just six plays into the drive.
On the next drive, Syracuse turned the ball over for the first time of the day. After a Burks sprawling catch inside the red zone, Purdue pulled back within one touchdown for a 21-14 'Cuse lead with 4:28 to play in the third.
Shrader and company responded with a drive of nearly five minutes as well, taking advantage of several Purdue penalties. Shrader covered the final yard in quarterback sneak, putting Syracuse up 28-14 seven seconds into the final frame.
Purdue pulled within a touchdown yet again on a one-yard run to finish a six-minute drive. But the ensuing PAT went wide left for a 28-20 Orange lead.
Syracuse dialed up the pressure on Purdue's next drive, forcing the seventh Boilermaker fumble of the night, but Purdue was awarded the ball after an official review determined a Boilermaker player touched it while on the out of bounds line. Three plays later, Isaiah Johnson broke up a 4th-and-1 pass, setting the Orange up at the Purdue 42-yard line with less than five minutes to play.
The Orange iced the game with its great field position with 3:19 to play on an option play as Shrader scampered for 28 yards for a 35-20 lead. Purdue had a touchdown called back after a holding penalty that put the Boilermakers behind the sticks. On 4th-and-14, Card and Max Klare could not connect.
On the final drive of the game, Shrader and Allen gashed the Purdue defense for a combined 60 yards. Shrader had a wide-open field and slid to stop the play and force a Boilermaker timeout. Allen dashed for 21 yards before Shrader took a knee to finish the game.
