Syracuse Travels South for Matchups Against Miami and Florida State

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team travels to Florida this weekend to play conference opponents Miami and Florida State. The Orange will face the Hurricanes on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. and the Seminoles on Sunday, Oct. 22 at noon. Fans can follow along with both matches through live stats and can stream both matches live on ACCNX.

'Cuse has matched up against Miami fourteen times, the Hurricanes leading the series 12-2. The last clash between the two programs was Nov. 18, 2022, where Miami won the match in straight sets. The last win for the Orange was done in four sets, 3-1, on Oct. 12, 2018. The Hurricanes are coming off a significant win for their program, defeating #11 Georgia Tech with a sweep last Sunday. Miami has a record of 12-6 in the 2023 season with a 5-3 record in ACC matches.

The Orange have yet to win a matchup against the Seminoles in all fourteen of their meetings. The last time 'Cuse faced Florida State was in October of 2022, where the Seminoles took the match, 3-1. This season, Florida State has a 13-7 record. In ACC play, the Seminoles have a record of 7-1, losing their first conference matchup to #11 Georgia Tech last Friday in a five-set thriller.

Last time out, the Orange were defeated by North Carolina and Duke at home. Freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy had seven kills in each of the matches from the weekend. She is currently tied for second on the team in kills this season with 78. Junior Laila Smith returned to play against Virginia Tech on Oct. 6 after suffering a concussion earlier in the season. Since reentering the action, she has been a force for the Orange, accumulating at least six kills in the last three matches and three solo blocks against Wake Forest on Oct. 8.

After this weekend, the Orange will return home to the Women's Building to face off against Clemson on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. and #13 Georgia Tech on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. Both matches will have live stats available and can be streamed on ACCNX.
