SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange beat Mississippi State in a four-set match to earn its ninth win of the season at the Hail State Invitational. Syracuse (9-1 Overall, 0-0 ACC) was strong defensively with 32 digs and 12 block assists. On offense, six players combined for 51 kills.

"We found a way to win today," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "It wasn't the prettiest, but I think that is because of our opponent. They brought in some new players and new rotations. That kept us from playing the way we wanted, especially in the third set. But we looked pretty good out there, and I like the win."

Junior Marina Markova had seven of the team's 15 kills in the 25-23 opening set win. In set two the Orange won with a little more breathing room, 25-18. After Mississippi State took the third set, 25-12, the Orange outlasted the Bulldogs in the fourth in a 28-26 win.

Of Note:

Junior Marina Markova recorded a career high in kills with 22.
Senior Elena Karakasi notched 40 assists.
Freshman Diana Akopova earned her first career service ace.
