SYRACUSE, NY. – The Orange open a series of road matches against Notre Dame on Friday at 7 PM, Followed by a Sunday matchup against #3 Louisville at 1PM. Syracuse (14-2 overall, 3-1 ACC) is coming off a weekend of wins at home over Wake Forest and Virginia Tech. Fans watching from home can catch both matches on ACC Network Xtra.
Orange Leaders
Polina Shemanova is leading the ACC in service aces (22), aces per set (0.52), and points (293.5). She is also ranked second in the conference in points per set (5.06) and total kills (249). Nationally, Shemanova ranks eighth in points and ninth in service aces.
Junior middle blocker Marina Markova is first in the ACC in kills (253). She is number two in points (289.5) and kills per set (4.36). Senior Elena Karakasi leads the ACC in assists (566).
The Series vs. ND, Louisville
This will be the 36th match-up between the Orange and the Fighting Irish. Syracuse last beat Notre Dame in 2019 at home.
The Orange and the Cardinals have played against each other 29 times. The first time these two teams met on the court was October 9, 1982, 39 years and one day before this upcoming weekend.
The Opponents
Notre Dame volleyball is currently 5-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference They enter the match coming off of two ACC wins, including a 3-2 victory over #18 Georgia Tech.
The Cardinals are No. 3 in the AVCA Coaches Poll and are undefeated so far in the 2021-22 season. After their bout with Boston College on Friday, Syracuse will be their 6th ACC opponent.
