BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Syracuse volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season on Friday, Sept. 11 against No. 13 Arizona at the LIU Blackbird Invitational. The Orange defated the Wildcats in the first set 25-16, but came up short in the next three sets, 21-25, 23-25, and 18-25.

"We're a good team, we just couldn't prove it today," senior setter Gosia Wlaszczuk said. "We basically played against ourselves. We need to put this one behind us and look forward. Tomorrow is a new day and we have two more games that we have to win."

The Orange came out of the gates strong, dominating the first set and continuing the fight throughout the rest of the match. Despite the valiant effort from Syracuse, No. 13 Arizona quickly rebounded, winning the next three sets.

"I think we fought hard but at the end of the day we lost the game with ourselves and could have done much better," outside hitter Nicolette Serratore said. "We're looking forward to redeeming ourselves tomorrow and walking away from tonight with a good lesson learnt."

The Orange are back in action at the LIU Blackbird Invitational tomorrow, taking on No. 15 Ohio State at 10 a.m. and LIU Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m.
