
No. 15 Ohio State Tops 'Cuse, 3-1

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Orange volleyball team fell to the No. 15 Buckeyes 3-1 on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the LIU Blackbird Invitational. Ohio State started off strong in the first set, defeating Syracuse 25-12. The Orange quickly bounced back, coming out on top in the second set after going neck and neck, 23-25. The victory in the second set, however, wasn't quite enough to hold off the Buckeyes, as Ohio State proceeded to win the next two sets in close fashion, 25-23 and 25-18.

Senior middle blocker Monika Salkute powered the Orange front row, leading the team with 11 kills while adding four blocks. Senior outside hitter Nicolette Serratore was a key contributor on both offense and defense, knocking down eight kills while matching a team high 12 digs. Sophomore libero Belle Sand also posted 12 digs and served up three aces over the four sets.

Outside hitter Silvi Uattara and freshman Santita Ebangwese totaled eight kills each, with Uattara adding two service aces and 10 digs. Ebangwese also contributed five total blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Leah Levert led the Orange with six total blocks.

Senior setter Gosia Wlaszczuk proved her versatility against the Buckeyes, finishing the match with five kills, 35 assists, and six digs.
