LAST WEEK:
In its first midweek match of the season, Syracuse swept Notre Dame for the program's third ever win against the Fighting Irish. For the sweep, Syracuse overcame a 22-15 deficit in the second set by scoring nine straight points. Sophomore Silvi Uattara finished with a game-high 14 kills while junior Melina Violas matched a career-best with 18 digs.
Â
The Orange had its backs against the walls at Boston College in the weekend finale, trailing the Eagles 14-10 in the fifth and deciding set. However SU scored the next five points and eight of the last 10 to walk away with a victory to get to .500 overall for the first time this season and improve to 8-2 in its last 10 contests this season. Sophomore Monika Salkute tied a career-high with 11 kills and led all players with seven total blocks. Junior Nicolette Serratore posted her seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 14 digs.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION:
PITTSBURGH: After beginning conference play with three straight wins, the Panthers (13-14, 5-9 ACC) have dropped nine of its last 11 matches, including a five-game skid that was ended last weekend with a five set triumph against Wake Forest. Pittsburgh has been lethal on the serve this season with three players totaling more than 30 aces, helping the team to rank first in the ACC and 24th nationally with 1.58 aces per set. Jessica Wynn is the squad's top hitter with 3.06 kills per set while sitting second in digs (1.94/set) and hitting percentage (.248). Kate Yeazel has been a threat on both offense and defense, ranking second on the team with 2.84 kills per set and 0.87 total blocks.
MARYLAND: The Terps have lost all six of its road games since opening the season with a sweep at George Washington. With splits the past two weekends, Maryland (13-13, 5-9 ACC) has been able to maintain a .500 overall record. As a team, Maryland ranks 17th in the nation in blocks per set, led by Ashlyn MacGregor's 1.31 average per set, good for second in the ACC. Sarah Harper, who became the Terps' all-time leader in digs over the weekend, is second in the conference at 4.81 digs per set. Mary Cushman is the top attacker, ranking 10th in the league with 3.31 kills per set and is second on the team with 2.78 digs per set.
Â
BUILDING BLOCKS:
Lindsay McCabe's 123 total blocks and 107 block assists in 2013 has propelled her into the program's top-10 all-time list for both categories. She is seventh all-time with 414 career blocks and now ranks sixth with 353 career block assists. The 414 career blocks are also 22nd among active Division I players. For the season, the redshirt junior is averaging 1.29 blocks per set, which ranks 36th in the nation and third-best in the ACC. In conference-play, McCabe's 1.47 blocks per set is second among individuals and a career-best 12 blocks at Virginia is the fourth highest output of the season by an ACC player. The redshirt junior is also closing in on the top-10 for solo blocks. She currently has 61 and needs one more to move into the all-time list.

SERIES HISTORY:
Syracuse defeated Pittsburgh earlier this season on Oct. 20 for head coach Leonid Yelin's 500th career victory and improved to 10-31 all-time against the Panthers. The teams have met every year since 1985 with Pitt winning 14 in a row from 1987-1996. Since then, the Orange has gone 9-11 against their former BIG EAST foe, which includes a 6-3 record dating back to 2005. Uattara led Syracuse once again with her third double-double in a row with season-highs of 18 kills and 12 digs.
With one win already in the books against Maryland this season, Syracuse is looking to even the all-time series at 8-8. Of the 15 all-time meetings between the two schools, 13 of them were between 1980-1991 with the Terps winning the first seven and SU taking the next six. In the Orange's sweep (30-28, 25-19, 29-27) at Maryland on Oct. 18, sophomore Silvi Uattara posted her second straight double-double with 17 kills and a season-best 12 digs.
