SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Each member of the senior class posted a first-place finish as Syracuse concluded its 2011 home schedule on Saturday afternoon at Webster Pool.
Senior Kuba Kotynia won the 200-yard IM, 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:56.57, 57.88 and 2:06.43, respectively. Sophomore Chad Flanick joined Kotynia in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, notching a pair of fifth-place finishes with time of 1:06.50 and 2:30.28. Flanick also represented the Orange in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 23.88.
Brian Malloy and Kevin Cardoni joined Flanick in the 50 free posting marks of 24.35 and 24.59, respectively. Malloy also swam in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:58.44. He posted a 54.09 mark in the 100-yard freestyle. Cardoni added a time of 56.00 in the 100 freestyle.
Senior Brian Zimmerman notched a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:59.17 and added a bronze-medal finish in the 200-yard IM (2:01.81). He also finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with at 55.69. Arriya Rojtinnakorn rounded out the men's competitors with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:09.38).
In the women's competition, senior Katie Lewinski earned a pair of gold medals, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.83 and the 100-yard version of the event with a mark of 56.77. Classmate Stephanie Lefebvre-Kuczynski added a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.57), while finishing third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.22), the 50-yard freestyle (25.95).
Senior Alice Stejkal earned the gold in the 100-yard breastroke (1:11.14), while also featuring in the 50-yard freestyle (25.85) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.84). Allie Knapp posted a 10th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (27.06), while Marykate McBride posted a time of 27.34 in the 50-yard freestyle, a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.51) and a 59.56 showing in the 100-yard freestyle.
Kathryn Roberts added a time of 29.26 in the 50-yard freestyle, a mark of 1:09.61 in the 100-yard butterfly and a time of 1:03.79 in the 100-yard freestyle. Elizabeth Cahill swam a time of 29.36 in the 50-free and a mark of 1:05.44 in the 100-free, while Jennifer Comeau posted marks of 30.65 in the 50 and a 1:05.29 in the 100.
Six members of the Orange are slated to compete in the 2011 BIG EAST Championships in Louisville, Ky. which begin Feb. 16.
