MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Syracuse University volleyball team (16-8, 5-3) looks to build upon its three match winning streak this weekend with BIG EAST contests at West Virginia and at Pittsburgh.
The Orange is fifth in the conference standings with six matches to go. The top eight teams participate in the conference tournament hosted by Marquette on Nov. 17-20.
THE WEEKEND AHEAD:
APPROACHING 1,000: Senior Noemie Lefebvre is 17 kills away from becoming the 11th player in SU history to have 1,000 kills in a career. She is also on the brink of becoming just the sixth player at Syracuse to have 1,000 career kills and digs. She recorded her 1,000th dig earlier this season at Utah State.
SCOUTING THE WEEKEND OPPONENTS: The Mountaineers are 5-15 overall and their 3-6 conference mark has them in 11th place. SU has a current eight match winning streak against WVU dating back to 2002.
Pitt is 14-10 overall and is ninth in the standings at 4-5. The Panthers are coming off their most impressive win of the season as Pitt handed Louisville its first BIG EAST loss of the season. SU will have to contend with the reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week, Kiesha Leggs.
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW:
HINZ LEADS THE NATION IN BLOCKS: Sam Hinz tallied a career-high 14 blocks against Seton Hall and now has the most blocks in the nation with 158. She is third nationally with a 1.58 blocks per set average.
LITTLE EARNS FIRST CAREER BIG EAST HONOR: Senior Erin Little led SU to a 3-0 mark last week by reaching double-digit kills in all three matches. Little hit .500 or better in two of those three contests. Against Seton Hall, Little filled the stat sheet with 11 kills, eight digs, six assists and five blocks. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
McCABE HITTING HER STRIDE: Sophomore Lindsay McCabe had back-to-back 14 kill performances against Rutgers and Seton Hall. She raised her hitting percentage .24 last week and now has the second-highest average on the team at .269.
