SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Erin Little and Lindsay McCabe had 14 kills apiece to lead the Syracuse University volleyball team (15-8, 4-3) past Rutgers (8-16, 1-6) in four set (25-14, 25-16, 23-25, 25-17) on Friday night at the Women's Building.
This was the second-consecutive game Little had double-digit kills and had over a .500 hitting percentage. The senior had 14 kills and hit .500 against Rutgers. McCabe also hit .500 tonight. The Orange set a season-high with a .336 hitting clip.
McCabe paced the Orange in set one as she connected on 5-of-6 attempts as SU would cruise to a 25-14 victory.
Little took over in the second set with a team-high five kills and a .714 hitting percentage. Setter Laura Homann had 13 helpers in the frame.
Rutgers won the third set by a narrow 25-23 margin, but Syracuse would not let the match go to five sets as the Orange dominated set four 25-17. Three SU players each tallied three kills apiece in the stanza.
Ashley Williams was impressive on defense as she recorded a season-high for digs in a four set match with 29, and was just two shy of her overall career-high. Emily Betteridge dished out 15 assists in the win. Noemie Lefebvre was one kill shy of her ninth double-double with nine kills and 13 digs. Andrea Fisher was the third player in double-digit kills with 12.
“Our team had solid offensive production tonight. Matt Soderstrom has done a great job working with our offense and it has showed," said interim head coach Kelly Morrisroe.
The Orange is back in action on Sunday in a pivotal conference match with Seton Hall (13-8, 4-2). First serve in the Women's Building is set for 2:00 p.m.
