SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Chelsea Bryan and senior Brian Zimmerman both of the swimming and diving team are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 31, 2011.
Bryan is a short-distance specialist for the Orange and one of the leading female swimmers. In the Nike Cup, she notched a season-best in the 100-yard freestyle with a 55.7 and touched the wall at 25.28 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Zimmerman is one of five seniors on the swim team. At Villanova, he posted a season-best 54.35 in the 100-yard butterfly, a 2:02:02 in the 200-yard butterfly and a 1:54.94 in the 200 free. He also touched the wall with a season-low 2:03.40 in the 200-yard IM at the Nike Cup.
Bryan, who is enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences, Zimmerman, a social work major, and the Orange host their final home meet beginning on Friday, February 4 at Archbold Pool at 5 p.m. The meet continues on Saturday, February 5 at 10 a.m.
