
Kotynia Named to Academic All-District First Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior swimmer Kuba Kotynia has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Men's Academic All-District I At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today. It is the first academic all-district honor for the Lodz, Poland native.
With his selection to the district's first team, Kotynia will be forwarded to the national All-America ballot to be voted on by the members of CoSIDA.
During the 2009-10 season, Kotynia picked up a pair of NCAA qualifying marks in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke. He earned All-BIG EAST Honors at the conference championship with a bronze medal finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 55.45.
Kotynia is the SU record holder in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events, setting both program records in the 2009 BIG EAST Championship.
Out of the pool, Kotynia is a computer science major in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. He is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic selection and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll all five semesters.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America program, student-athletes must achieve sophomore standing at their current school and possess a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3. Participants in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling are eligible for the men's at-large program.
