
Kotynia Leads Orange at BIG EAST Championships

PITTSBURGH - Junior Kuba Kotynia led the Orange at the BIG EAST Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa over the weekend, placing third in the 100 yard breaststroke with an NCAA qualifying 55.45.
The Lodz, Poland native won the 100 yard breaststroke preliminary swim with a 55.29 before earning bronze in the event final to become an All-BIG EAST performer. Freshman Chad Flanick joined Kotynia in the 100 yard breaststroke prelims, finishing 29th overall with a 1:01.78.
Senior Ryan Corcoran also turned in a top-20 finish for the Orange, placing 17th in the 50 yard freestyle with a 21.06. Junior Brian Zimmerman finished with a 54.08 in the 100 yard butterfly, good for 35th overall while Ben Santerre touched the wall with a 1:47.75 in the 200 yard freestyle.
On the women's side, junior Stephanie Lefebvre-Kuczynski and sophomore Chelsea Bryan represented SU. Kuczynski finished 30th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:09.34 and placed 46th in the 50 yard freestyle with a 25.39. Bryan joined her teammate in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 25.62.
Senior Kirsten Thomas represented the Orange at the BIG EAST Diving Championships, finishing 33rd in the 1-meter diving trials with a 140.55 point total.
Kotynia will compete in the 2010 NCAA Championships from March 12 through 14 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
