
Senior Kuba Kotynia earned a pair of golds and a silver in the swimming and diving season opener on Friday night.
Orange Opens 2010-11 Season

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Syracuse opened its 2010-11 season in a non-scoring meet against Army and Marist on Friday evening at Crandall Pool. Senior Kuba Kotynia led the way for the Orange, earning first-place finishes in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke.
The Lodz, Poland native won gold in the 100-yard breast with a time of 57.98 and earned top billing in the 200-yard version with a mark of 2:07.05. He also earned a silver medal in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall at 1:59.38. Sophomore Chad Flanick joined Kotynia in both events, finishing with times of 1:05.90 in the 100 and a 2:32.20 in the 200, placing seventh in both events.
Sophomore Brian Malloy represented the Orange in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, placing eighth in the 50 with a mark of 25.39 and ninth in the 100 with a time of 57.07. Senior Brian Zimmerman rounded out the men's performers, placing seventh in the 100-yard fly with a time of 56.90, turning in a mark of 2:02.76 in the 200-yard butterfly to place sixth, and earning eighth place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.15).
Senior Stephanie Lefebvre-Kuczynski led the Orange with a silver-medal finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:35.66), while finishing fourth in the 100-yard version of the event with a time of 1:12.30. She also earned a ninth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.82. Classmate Alice Stejskal joined Kuczynski in all three events, placing fourth in the 200-yard breast (2:45.97), fifth in the 100-yard breast (1:15.83) and ninth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:30.05).
Junior Chelsea Bryan was another top performer for the Orange, finishing just out of medal contention in the 50-yard freestyle (25.97), while earning sixth place in the 100-yard free (58.15). Senior Katie Lewinski placed fifth in the 50-yard free and earned seventh in the 100-yard free with a time of 1:00.09. Sophomores Alexandria Knapp, Kathryn Roberts and freshman Elizabeth Cahill also competed in the 50-yard freestyle. Knapp earned fifth with a time of 28.07, while Roberts and Cahill finished in 28.60 (10th) and 29.98 (11th), respectively. Knapp and Cahill also featured in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing ninth (1:02.30) and 10th (1:05.78), respectively.
Rookie Marykate McBride made her collegiate debut at the meet, placing eighth in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.34) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:07.43). Roberts joined McBride in the 100-yard butterfly, placing ninth with a time of 1:09.60.
Syracuse returns to the pool when it travels to Pennsylvania for a meet with BIG EAST foe Villanova and LaSalle on Friday, Oct. 22.
