
Eleven Swimmers Recognized By BIG EAST

A total of 11 members of the Syracuse swimming & diving team were named to the 2008-09 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
The men's side had seven student-athletes recognized. Achieving the honor for the fourth year in a row were departed senior and computer art major Peter Gollands and departed senior advertising design major Colin Murphy. Three-time honorees were supply chain management major Sean Ellis and information and technology major Boldizsar Kiss. Departed senior Matthew Gerlach, rising senior Berk Kahraman, and rising junior Kuba Kotynia earned the award for the second time in their careers.
The women's team had four BIG EAST All-Academic selections. Departed senior Blair Gontowicz was named to the team for the second time, while departed senior Sarah Manning was picked to the squad for the third time.
Dani Stein and Catrina Roth capped their careers by being selected to the team for the fourth time. Stein graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism and won seven races in 2008-09, in addition to competing at the BIG EAST Championship. Roth, who earned her degree in public relations, set the SU school record in the 100-meter backstroke at the BIG EAST Championship.
