Mazzetta Leads SU in Day Two in Indiana

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sophomore Natalie Mazzetta swam to a fourth place finish in the women's 500 Freestyle to lead the Syracuse swimming and diving team Thursday evening in day two of the BIG EAST Championship. The Orange swimmers continue competition today at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
Mazzetta touched the wall in 4:50.57, her best time of the season. Senior Sarah Manning finished 11th overall with a time of 4:55.00, also her best time of the year.
The Orange men and women also completed the 200 Freestyle Relay. The women's team of Manning, junior Katelyn Schumacher, sophomore Stephanie Kuczynski and Mazzetta placed ninth at a clip of 1:36.60. Juniors Alex Taraskin and Ryan Corcoran, senior Matt Brock and junior Boldiszar Kiss teamed up on the men's side for a sixth place finish in the event. They recorded a time of 1:22.86.
Notre Dame continues to hold first place heading into day three. The Orange women sit in seventh place out of 12 teams with 91 points, while the men continue to hold onto eighth out of 11 with 76 points.
