Orange Women Swim to SU Records

Day One Results
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Day one of the 2009 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship has concluded in Indianapolis, Ind. The Orange women stand in sixth place with 52 points after recording two Syracuse records, while the Orange men rank eighth with 50 after five events.
Sophomore Natalie Mazzetta and teammates sophomore Katlin O'Hara, junior Katelyn Schumacher and senior Sarah Manning joined forces in the 800 Freestyle Relay. The gorup finished sixth in the event with a time of 7:26.75, beating the former record set in 2003 by 2.86 seconds. The men's team of junior Boldiszar Kiss, sophomore Berk Kahraman, senior Matt Brock and junior Alex Taraskin finished fifth on the men's side with a time of 6:37.78.
The final two events of the day were the 200 Medley Relays. The women's team of seniors Catrina Roth and Dani Stein, Manning and O'Hara turned in a sixth place time of 1:43.22 to update the SU record set last season by exactly one second. SU's men's team composed of junior Arda Isiksalan, sophomore Kuba Kotynia, senior Peter Gollands and junior Ryan Corcoran completed the relay in 1:32.44.
At the end of day one, the Notre Dame men and women lead all schools with137 and 80 points, respectively. BIG EAST Championship action continues tomorrow in the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI at 10 a.m. with preliminaries for the next nine events. Finals will take place at 6 p.m.
