
SU Loses BIG EAST Opener, 3-1

SYRACUSE, NY - The Syracuse women’s volleyball team lost its BIG EAST opener to St. John’s, 3-1, on Friday, Sept. 27 in Manley Field House.
The loss snapped a six-match winnning streak at home for SU. The Orangewomen (9-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) came back from a 30-27 loss in the first game to win the second game, 30-27, but lost the next two, 30-27 and 30-20. St. John’s (12-7, 1-0 BIG EAST) recorded a .252 hitting percentage, compared to SU’s .226.
Sophomore Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) led the Orangewomen with a career-high 17 kills. She recorded only three errors on 29 attacks for a .483 hitting percentage. Freshman Kristen Conway (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished with 10 kills, and junior co-captain Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) led the defense with 19 digs.
St. John’s was led by three players in double figures. Sarah McCrary recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 11 digs. Jackie Ahlers finished with 18 kills, and Rosalyn Dang chipped in 13 putdowns.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when it faces Marist at 2 p.m. in Manley Field House.
