
Jones Sets School Record In Win Against Brown

SYRACUSE, NY - Sophomore Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) recorded a career-high 15 kills and set a school record for most attacks in a three-game match to lead the Orangewomen past Brown on Friday night in the Syracuse Invitational Tournament at Manley Field House.
For the second match in a row, Jones recorded a personal best in kills. In addition to her 15 putdowns, Jones set a Syracuse record for most attacks in a three-game match with 46. Annie Parisien previously held the record with 43 attacks against Pittsburgh in 1991.
There was a momentum shift in the third game when junior co-captain Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) dug a ball that fell in for a point to give SU a 27-26 advantage. SU went on to win 30-28. Casey posted a season-high 17 digs in the match. Freshman Kristen Conway (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) recorded seven kills and 11 digs, and junior Michaela Skelly (Simi Valley, CA/Royal) dished out 33 assists to move into seventh place on SU’s all-time assists list with 622.
Karalyn Kuchenbecker led the Bears with 11 kills, and Kim Highlund recorded a team-high 14 digs.
Buffalo defeated Colgate, 3-0, in the opening match of the Syracuse Invitational Tournament. Kathryn Henry and Lindsay Matikosh led the Bulls with 16 and 14 kills, respectively.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 when it faces Colgate at 1 p.m. and Buffalo at 7 p.m.
