
Orangewomen Set School Record In 3-0 Win Against Friars

SYRACUSE, NY - The Syracuse women’s volleyball team defeated Providence, 3-0, behind a school-record setting .544 hitting percentage on Sunday afternoon in the Women’s Building.
The Orangewomen (19-9, 5-5 BIG EAST) connected for 46 kills on 79 attacks with only three errors in the three-game match. The school’s previous record of .485 was set last year against Canisius.
Senior co-captain Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) recorded 11 kills on 13 attempts with no errors for a career-high .846 hitting percentage. Freshman Jessica Logan (Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) posted nine kills on 13 attempts with no errors for a .692 attack percentage, and sophomore Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) was also perfect with seven kills on 14 attempts for a .500 attack percentage.
Syracuse served up 14 service aces and outblocked Providence, 8-0.
Sandy Fanning led Providence (2-25, 0-9 BIG EAST) with four kills and 10 digs.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, November 9 when it faces Notre Dame in the Women’s Building. Senior Abby Van Mater will play her last home game for the Orangewomen.
