
Syracuse Splits First Day Action at Orange Invitational

,SYRACUSE, NY - Freshman Laura Koster (Houston, TX) recorded 13 kills and four block assists to lead the Syracuse University women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Albany in the Orangewomen’s season opener in the Orange Invitational Tournament at Manley Field House on Friday afternoon. Syracuse lost to Kent State, 3-0, in its evening match.
Syracuse defeated Albany 30-24, 30-23 and 30-25. The Orangewomen (1-1) combined for 14 total blocks to shut down Albany’s offense. Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA) posted 12 kills and two block assists in the win. SU fell to Kent State in three games 24-30, 24-30 and 25-30. Koster had 10 digs and two block assists in the loss.
In other tournament action, Fairfield defeated Northeastern, 3-2. The Stags (1-0) came back after dropping the first game, 20-30. The Stags won games two and three, 30-22 and 30-26 and sealed the win with a15-11 fifth game. Conny Paul of Fairfield lead both teams with 21 kills. She also recorded 12 digs.
Syracuse returns to action on Sat., Sept. 1 against Northeastern at noon in the second day of action at the Orange Invitational Tournament. The Orangewomen play Fairfield in their second game of the day at 7 p.m.
