
Syracuse Wins Fourth Consecutive Match With Win Against Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI - Five Syracuse volleyball players hit in double figures to lead SU to a 3-1 victory against Providence College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall. The Orangewomen extended their record to 12-9 and 3-5 in the BIG EAST, while the Friars’ record now stands at 6-17 and 0-9 in BIG EAST play.
Senior co-captain Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) led five players in double figures with 14 kills. This was the second consecutive match Munger has led SU in kills. Freshman Ashley Kimes (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley North) followed with 13 kills on 24 attempts with three errors for a .417 attack percentage. Teammate Rachel Crooks (Green Springs, OH/Clyde) recorded 12 kills, three service aces, five digs and three total blocks. Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad) tallied 11 kills and a career-high nine digs. Junior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) chipped in 10 kills. Syracuse hit .268 as a team, compared to Providence’s .239.
Senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) dished out 54 assists, recorded nine digs and had two block assists. With the two block assists, Carroll is now tied for ninth place on SU’s career block assists list.
Sophomore Michaela Skelly (Simi Valley, CA/Royal) recorded nine digs, and teammate Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) chipped in eight digs in the match. Syracuse outblocked Providence, 7.5- 4.0.
Syracuse returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 31 when it hosts Niagara at 4:30 p.m. and Canisius at 7 p.m. Both matches are at the Women’s Building in Syracuse.
