Orange Earn Second-Straight Sweep Against UAlbany

The Syracuse volleyball team continued the Cornell invite on Friday, taking down UAlbany in straight sets at Cornell's Newman Arena. The Orange picked up their second straight win by taking down the Great Danes 25-20, 25-15, 25-20.
Kiernan Stamey paced the Orange offense with a team-high 13 kills on a .300 clip, while Abby Nicholson was efficient at the middle blocker position, adding 11 kills on just one error for a .625 hitting percentage. Keila Gabriel chipped in eight kills of her own, hitting .500 for the match.
Freshman setter Charis Burge orchestrated the attack with a match-high 25 assists. Yuka Urano led the Syracuse defense with eight digs and served up two of the team's five aces. At the net, Nicholson topped all players with seven total blocks (one solo, six assists), part of a Syracuse block total that outpaced UAlbany 10-3 on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one went back and forth, with the two sides trading the lead and tying the score as late as 12-12. Syracuse answered and eventually pulled away in the closing points to take the opener, 25-20.
Syracuse trailed early in set two but rallied back to tie the set at 12-12. From there, the Orange took control, winning seven of the final nine points, including a Urano service ace to close out a comfortable 25-15 set win.
Tied at 8-8 in set three, Syracuse rallied off seven straight points to take the lead 15-8. Syracuse held on from there, closing out the sweep with a 25-20 set win.
