The Syracuse volleyball team dropped its ACC home match to Notre Dame in straight sets on Sunday afternoon at the Women's Building, falling 25-17, 25-18, 25-14.

Kiernan Stamey led the Syracuse offense with nine kills on 26 swings, while Marie Laurio added six kills and a team-high eight digs. Abby Nicholson chipped in five kills on a .231 clip, and Charis Burge ran the Orange attack with 19 assists to go with eight digs of her own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse traded points with Notre Dame early in the first set, with the score tied at 6-6, before the Fighting Irish went on a run to grab a 10-6 lead. Notre Dame held that cushion the rest of the way, closing out the opening frame, 25-17.

The Orange found their groove in the second set, building a 13-10 lead in the middle of the frame. But Notre Dame answered, tying the set at 16-16 before scoring five-straight to seize control. The Fighting Irish closed it out, 25-18.

Notre Dame started set three with a 9-1 run and never looked back. Syracuse was unable to take a run to get back into the set, as the Fighting Irish completed the sweep with a 25-14 win.

NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS

Kiernan Stamey led Syracuse with nine kills on 26 attempts.
Marie Laurio added six kills, a team-high eight digs and shared the team lead with two total blocks.
Charis Burge ran the Orange offense with 19 assists and added eight digs.
Abby Nicholson posted five kills on a .231 hitting percentage.

UP NEXT
The Orange stay home to take on SMU and Pittsburgh next weekend. The SMU match is slated for a 6:00 p.m. EST start in the Women's Building while first serve for Sunday's Pittsburgh match is set for 1:00 p.m. EST.
