Orange Finish a Program Best 6th at the IRA Championship
6/1/2025 2:31:00 PM | Men's Rowing
The 2025 IRA Regatta was a historic one of the Orange. Syracuse men's rowing posted its best team finish at the IRA Regatta, earning sixth in the Ten Eyck Trophy (team points), after placing all four boats in the Grand Final for the first time in program history since the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta moved to its current format.
"Every season is different and this season it took us a while to get things sorted out and find our speed," Reischman said. "I think the thing I am most proud of isn't five [Grand Finals] in a row, and I'm pretty damn proud of that. It's that we had a lot of opportunities to take the exit ramp this year and to quit on each other and to lose some faith and the guys didn't do that. Even when one boat was struggling they were still the other boat's biggest fans and that's rare. I think that is what I'll remember most about this year and this group of guys. Things didn't always go our way and we never stopped trying to get faster, as a coaching staff we never stopped coaching and as athletes they never stopped trying to get better."
The Third Varsity Eight earned sixth in the grand final clocking in at 5:42.07. Harvard won finishing in 5:29.06 while narrowly beating Washington (5:29.09). Call rounded out the podium in third while Yale (5:40.79) and Princeton (5:42.07) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The sixth-place finish marks the best result for the 3V8 in the Dave Reischman era at Syracuse.
The Second Varsity Eight tied its best finish in the last 20 years with a fifth-place finish in the Grand Final crossing the finish in 5:30.67. Washington won gold in 5:29.78 ahead of Harvard (5:26.87) and California (5:27.30) who earned spots on the podium while Brown (5:28.68) was fourth and Yale was sixth in 5:37.18.
In the final race of the season, the Varsity 8 placed sixth in the country. The Orange, who were seeded 11th entering the IRA Regatta, earned a spot in their 5th-straight IRA Grand Final. Washington won gold in 5:29.78 while Harvard (5:30.75) and Dartmouth (5:30.90) earned second and third, respectively. Princeton was fourth in 5:32.20 while Brown was fifth in 5:34.55.
Syracuse's season comes to a close at the National Championship. The Orange, who have made five straight Varsity 8 Grand Finals, have also finished top 10 in points in each of the last three years. Syracuse will bid farewell to 14 seniors who helped resurrect the Syracuse program.
